Still want to build that big pirate ship base I linked a page or two back too. That'll require building a breeding enclosure of some kind. Female too, so I might play around with mating it with my level ~125 male, though I haven't even looked at their stats yet to determine if they have the desirable random rolls. Tamed myself a base level 108 argentavis (tamed out to level 165 or so iirc) so that was a nice addition. Will likely use that when I go to tame a mosasaurus. Guessing some kind of submarine type thing with a fabricator so I can repair my scuba gear. Thinking a mobile forge / taming platform on the quetzal. Learned the plesio and quetzal platform saddles over the weekend, so I need to get around to building those at some point. Of course that'll require running piping all over the place. Want to eventually use the plant species x seeds that I picked up, so might make some crop plots along the top of the wall too and use them for base defence. Currently expanding my main base and putting a wooden platform walkway all around the inside so I can stand on it and snipe enemies. I need to write myself a to-do list as I keep getting sidetracked by other stuff. Man there is so much to do in this damn game.

Now I gotta figure out how to get more silica pearls so I can make a saddle for it. Fourth one though I managed to bring down over land (right near my base, conveniently enough) and was able to protect it long enough to finish the tame. First 2 quetzals died before getting k/o'd, the next one I managed to k/o but it fell in the water in the middle of a bunch of spinos (oops). Once it was tamed I leveled it up a bit by killing things with it, put all points into speed then grabbed my scorpion and went hunting. Having my megalodon with me made getting lots of prime meat a cinch. The one I did finally get I was on my raft at death island and I somehow managed to knock it out right on my raft! So I sailed off into the middle of the ocean so I could tame it in peace. Every time I nearly had a high level one tamed it'd get killed by a randomly appearing pack of raptors. Until then, dilos are ok.After a week or so of failed attempts I finally managed to solo tame a quetzal!īiggest challenge was actually taming an argentavis with enough stamina to keep up with it.

Once you get tranq arrows, i think its better to tame and then breed Raptors, but early on, you might not have the tools or a suitable base, or enough know-how to pull that off.

In some cases, it can be very smart.for example, if you on a small island, or secluded area, setting a dilo or two on wander and letting them kill dilos and dodos for you is just free meat. The dilo may not be amazing, but its certainly not wrong to tame a few. Early on, the dilo can at least protect you and your base from other dilos, maybe pegos and other small annoying critters. The dilo has its merits, mainly dilo eggs, if you want to get into kibble farming. A dead dino does none of that.įurthermore, if you kill said dino, another dino will just respawn in its place, possibly/probably even the same species. They can help you win fights, and do other things. A tamed dino can at least be a distraction to threats, or alert you to them. A philosophy that has served me well in ark, is that its generally better to tame something than kill it, unless you just need the mats, or something.
